Community Climate Connectors

The Community Climate Connectors (CCC) initiative has been funded by the Invest In Shropshire UKSPF fund and is all about building capacity across Shropshire and empowering community group volunteers to help everyone in their community to keep warm, save energy and cut carbon.

In essence, CCC is a comprehensive effort to address climate change and energy usage through education, engagement, and practical action. Our project is split into THREE key areas, each designed to offer support and resources to community groups who want to get involved:

We offer comprehensive training in energy efficiency provided by our expert in-house energy advisors. These are tailored sessions for community groups covering everything from using the HEAT app for energy surveys to implementing low-cost energy-saving measures. These sessions are completely customisable to suit the needs and interests of your group but could include how to:

  • Conduct home visits to give basic energy efficiency advice to householders.
  • Point householders towards grant-funded programmes.
  • Use our new HEAT app, which analyses energy consumption by appliances in the home.
  • Use Thermal Imaging cameras (subject to availability).
  • Fit Low-Cost Measures including LED bulbs, draught excluders, radiator reflectors, and post box covers. Alternatively, you can have a supply of these items to distribute in your community.

In collaboration with Save our Shropshire (SOS), we also offer carbon literacy training. This includes full training covering both energy efficiency and carbon literacy, as well as standalone options for those interested in either topic. We aim to increase training targets across the county and build volunteer capacity to support community initiatives.

We can provide admin and marketing support for groups. Whether you need help organising your energy efficiency volunteer service, or promoting other climate-related activities, we’re here to assist you every step of the way.

We can also help with events. We’ll help your group organise your own climate or energy-related events and assist in finding and attending existing ones. It’s all about spreading awareness and making connections within our communities!

Lastly, we have an opportunity to fund one or more community energy feasibility studies. This is a grant we are offering to support projects that benefit communities through sustainable energy solutions. It’s a broad scope, but the focus is always on making a positive impact right here in Shropshire. If you think you have a project that could be suitable, please get in touch!

The CCC project is all about bringing our communities together to tackle climate change and the energy crisis head-on. If you would like to get involved or learn more, please email [email protected] or call 0800 677 1307 (option 5).
