We are delighted to announce that the Future Ready Homes project has won further funding from the Energy Saving Trust, launching phase 2 of the scheme.
Future Ready Homes supports householders improving the energy efficiency of their homes through retrofit – improvement work to existing buildings helping to increase energy efficiency, make homes warmer, healthier, with lower energy bills and carbon emissions. The project is run by Marches Energy Agency, a charity with a long-standing experience of working in energy efficiency and sustainability.
As with phase 1, we will be doing lots of general work in raising awareness of and knowledge about retrofit, aiming to give householders the confidence and understanding they need to embark on their home retrofit journey.
We will be producing a second series of educational webinars (you can catch up on our first series here), attending events, hosting events such as the very popular Green Doors, and using our website to share the best retrofit resources with you.
New for phase 2 is a focus on housing ‘archetypes’. An archetype is a specific housing type which is very common in a certain area, for example Victorian solid brick terraces. Where the housing types are similar there are lots of efficiencies to benefit from – in marketing and communications, in surveying, in retrofit design, and even in bulk purchase of materials and use of contractor labour all in one place. The hope being that in concentrating our efforts in this way we can make more retrofits happen, and thereby save more carbon for less money.
Future Ready Homes supports anyone interested in retrofit, in particular those who may not be eligible for grant-funded schemes such as ECO and HUG.
For phase 2, the project area now includes Shropshire, Herefordshire, and Telford & Wrekin. Powys is now part of the exciting all-Wales Cartrefi Clyd project. If you live in Powys, you can of course access our website and all of our materials, but you can also apply for a retrofit survey at https://www.cartreficlyd.cymru/
