What is Retrofit?

Retrofit means making changes to your home so it uses less energy, retains heat, and produces fewer carbon emissions.

Whether you want to cut energy bills, reduce carbon emissions, or make your home warmer and healthier, we are here to guide you through every step of your retrofit journey.

Fabric retrofit improves how well your home holds heat:

  • Draught-proofing doors, windows and gaps in the fabric of your home
  • Insulating walls, floors and roofs
  • Repairing and upgrading windows and doors

Renewable energy retrofit reduces reliance on fossil fuels:

  • Heat pumps as a low-carbon replacement for gas or oil boilers
  • Solar panels to generate your own clean electricity
  • Batteries to store electricity for later use
  • High Heat Retention Storage Heaters, for affordable heat that’s familiar to operate

Retrofit doesn’t have to happen all at once. We can help you plan a phased approach that suits your budget, home and priorities.

Why Choose Marches Energy Advice?

Marches Energy Advice (MEA) is a registered charity with decades of experience in fuel poverty, energy efficiency and sustainability. Unlike commercial operators, we don’t sell products so our advice is always impartial and independent.

We help you:

  • Lower your energy bills through targeted efficiency improvements
  • Reduce your carbon footprint with renewables and low-carbon heating
  • Make your home warmer, healthier and more comfortable
  • Access grants and funding you may be eligible for
  • Navigate smart technology options for your home

Who We Help

We support homeowners, tenants and landlords across:

  • Shropshire
  • Telford & Wrekin
  • Herefordshire
  • Derbyshire

Advice is available over the phone or in your home — whatever works best for you. Our advice over the phone is free of charge. During a home energy survey we have some clever tools to help us detect what are often hidden causes of heat loss:

  • a thermal imaging camera which works best in cold weather
  • a blower door kit which simulates a windy day, to test where draughts are entering your home causing heat loss
  • Our in-home services are offered on a ‘pay what you choose’ basis, so they remain accessible to any budget.

We also have a whole series of webinars, with expert speakers discussing all things retrofit. Click here to access the webinar recordings, produced as part of our Future Ready Homes project, in collaboration with Herefordshire Green Network.
